ELLEN VIIK

Ellen’s work is shaped by light as much as by landscape. Drawing from her experience growing up in the Norwegian countryside, her paintings explore how natural light defines, distorts, and dissolves the spaces around us. Forms shift between representation and abstraction, as mountains, water, and sky are reduced to atmosphere rather than fixed structure. Subtle transitions and softened edges create a sense of depth that feels more sensed than seen, where light becomes the primary subject rather than the land itself. There is a quietness to the work, but also a sense of movement, as if each scene is in a constant state of change. Rather than capturing a specific place, Ellen’s paintings reflect the fleeting, illusive qualities of perception, inviting the viewer to experience landscape not as something solid, but as something felt.
