The RFU Injured Player's Foundation - passion and purpose

Updated: Nov 6

We're very fortunate at Ben&Jack Studio that often our corporate and commercial work involves a subject matter we're very passionate about. However our latest work for the RFU's Injured Player's Foundation was particularly special as it combined three of our greatest passions, rugby, water sports and disability equality!

The RFU Injured Player's Foundation is an incredible charity that helps support those who are injured playing the game, not just in rehabbing from their injury but also support for the rest of their lives. As John put so perfectly in his interview "we can't have these people wasting away", the IPF is all about maximising what the injured players can do and days such as their team trip to Access Adventures are a regular occurence. They aim to allow player's to network for peer support and to ensure that they continue to push themselves out of their comfort zone post-injury.

We were thrilled to be invited along to capture a wide range of content on the day that would then be used in various video packages. Access Adventures is a fantastic faciltiy just off the M25 near Staines. We love these kind of shoots where you're aiming to create a bank of high quality content for future use, maximising the time you have with talent. After we'd captured arrival shots and some preliminary interviews it was time to get out on the water and ensure we didn't miss a moment of the action!

We've been filming extreme and action sports for decades and love incoporating action sports filming techniques and angles with the professional cinematography style filmmaking we bring to our corporate and commercial work. Using our trusty Sony A7Siii's on this production allowed us to hop out in the boat with the participants and use the in-built stabilisation of the camera to shoot skiers and ringo riders with our long telephoto lens, so that the images felt as if you were right there with them in the water whilst still having a stable, professional shot.

Although the day was largely about having fun, there was also big importance on the networking and connection element and so we were keen to ensure plenty of candid moments were captured where participants were chatting and getting to know each other. We focused time on this throughout the day and also made sure that we captured plenty of these shots during the end of day BBQ. As the sun set perfectly on the lake just as food was served, these shots ended up being some of our favourites.

Within the last year at Ben&Jack Studio we've been very lucky to increasingly work in the disabilty equality space. From covering Paralympic action through to grassroots inclusive sport sesisons, it has been a real privilige to learn more about this important, wide ranging topic and the highlight of this shoot was being able to chat with the player's, learn more about their lives and their ambitions. The IPF truly is a phenomenal charity, it encourages the player's to get involved in days such as this but also pushes and encourages them to set their own challenges and the day was filled with talk about skiing trips, marathon attempts and other exciting adventures. It was a true pleasure to spend the day on the water with all the IPF player's and team thank you to everyone involved, you can support and follow all their activity via their Instagram page below...
