Yuliia Tarnovska is a Ukrainian-born, UK-based artist whose figurative paintings merge surrealism, symbolism, modernism and pop art. Her monumental female figures explore femininity, psychology, and the paradoxes of human existence through vivid colour, strong contrasts, and symbolic form.

“Since childhood, art has been my way of understanding the world and giving shape to imagination. I studied easel painting at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, where I developed a strong foundation in academic drawing and painting. Later, my experience in large-scale decoration, fashion projects, and photography expanded my vision, allowing me to merge rigorous craft with freer, more experimental approaches.

Women remain central to my work. I see them as both vulnerable and resilient, graceful and absurd, powerful yet fragile. My figures often become symbols, layered with psychology, philosophy, and hidden narratives that reflect both personal and universal stories.
Stylistically, I draw from surrealism, symbolism,
modernism, and pop art, creating expressive compositions with bold contrasts, vivid colour, and monumental form. I work confidently across nearly all techniques of painting and drawing, treating each canvas as a space where intuition meets structure.

Ultimately, I aim to create paintings that feel alive-works that carry energy, depth, and contradiction, inviting the viewer to find beauty and meaning in imperfection.”
